Needless to say I am super-disappointed. This was supposed to be the weekend of the additional 20% off the Now or Never sale at Holt Renfrew. I had inklings something was wrong as I re-read the sale e-mail that I had received for the initial Now or Never Sale announcement, when I noticed that it said that the sale was ending January 25, 2009. However, it was confirmed this week when I never got the sale e-mail that would typically go out on the Thursday to say that there would be an additional 20% off. In stores all their sale merchandise is cleared out with only a few racks of “Reduced” clothing left. A sales associate confirmed they were not having it but did not seem to know why. She mentioned that they had already done additional markdowns this year, more than they usually would thus already incorporating the additional 20% off. However, I was there last weekend and many of the items were maximum 50% off. That’s no way to have a proper end of season!
Only a few items were 70% off, but not that many and the shoes definitely did not go down that much. Let’s just say I am disappointed and surprised that in this economy, Holts would not have had better markdowns. I’m sure somebody at their head office will be analyzing the numbers to see if this new marketing/sales strategy is more successful than the “additional 20% off” strategy they have been using for the past few years. I’m guess we will find out if this is a permanent change at the next end of season sale in August 2009. On a brighter note, Michael Kors stores in Canada have marked down all their sale clothing to 70% off. Got some great cashmere stuff in there! Happy shopping!
